Terms and Conditions

These terms apply to everyone who visits, buys from, or sells on the Crafta website. Please read them carefully. By using the site, creating an account, or placing an order, you agree to these terms together with our Privacy Policy, Returns Policy, and Delivery Policy.

2. Crafta is currently free to use

Crafta is in its launch phase. No payments are taken on this website yet, and browsing, creating an account, listing products as a seller, and placing an order are all free. You will never be charged automatically by this website.

Secure online payments through Payfast, a South African payment gateway, will be added soon. Until then, orders placed through checkout are recorded without payment and we will contact you using the details you provide about your order. We will update these terms before online payments go live.

How payments will work once Payfast is live

  • All prices and payments will be in South African Rand (ZAR).
  • You will be redirected to Payfast's secure payment page to pay using the methods Payfast offers, such as credit or debit card and instant EFT.
  • Card details are entered directly on Payfast's PCI DSS-compliant platform over an encrypted connection. Crafta never sees or stores your full card details.
  • Your order will only be confirmed once Payfast notifies us that payment was successful.

3. Using Crafta

  • You must be at least 18 years old, or use the site with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.
  • The information you give us (including your name, email, phone number, and delivery address) must be accurate and kept up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity on your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised use.
  • We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms, misuse the site, or put other users at risk.

4. How the marketplace works

Products on Crafta are made by independent makers ("Sellers"). Crafta reviews and approves every listing before it appears in the shop, processes orders placed through the site, and coordinates delivery. Each product page shows the Seller's name, a description, photos, price, and stock availability.

Because items are handmade, small variations in colour, size, texture, and finish are normal and are part of each piece's character. Photos and screen colours are as accurate as we can make them, but may differ slightly from the item you receive. These natural variations are not defects.

5. Prices

  • All prices are shown in South African Rand (ZAR) and are the full price payable for the item.
  • Delivery fees are shown separately in your cart and at checkout before you place your order. See our Delivery Policy.
  • If a product is listed at an obviously incorrect price because of an error, we may cancel the order and refund anything paid in full. We will tell you before doing so.
  • Prices and availability can change at any time, but changes will not affect orders already placed.

6. Placing an order

  1. Add products to your cart and go to checkout. You can check out as a guest or with an account.
  2. Enter your contact details and South African delivery address, review your order summary, and accept these terms.
  3. When you place your order you will receive an order number (for example, CRAFTA-100001). Please keep it for any queries.
  4. Placing an order is an offer to buy. An agreement is formed when we confirm your order. We may decline an order if an item is unavailable, if there is a pricing error, or if we suspect fraud.

Account holders can view their order history, order status, and tracking details under My Account.

7. Delivery

We deliver within South Africa only and do not ship internationally. Delivery costs, timeframes, and tracking are explained in our Delivery Policy. Risk in the goods passes to you when they are delivered to the address you provided.

8. Cancellations, returns, and refunds

You can cancel an order free of charge before it is dispatched. Under section 44 of ECTA you may also cancel within 7 days of receiving your goods, and under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (CPA) you are protected against defective goods for 6 months. Exceptions apply to personalised and custom-made items. Full details are in our Returns, Refunds & Cancellations Policy.

9. Selling on Crafta

If you register as a Seller, these additional terms apply to you:

  • You must be the maker of the items you list, or have the full right to sell them, and the items must be handmade or made by small-batch South African makers.
  • Your listings must describe each product honestly and accurately, including materials, dimensions, care instructions, and any lead times, with genuine photos of the item.
  • Every listing is reviewed by Crafta before it is published. We may decline, edit for formatting, or remove any listing that does not meet these terms or our quality standards.
  • You may not list counterfeit goods, items that infringe anyone else's intellectual property, weapons, hazardous or illegal items, or anything that is unsafe or unlawful to sell in South Africa.
  • You are responsible for the quality and safety of your products and for complying with laws that apply to them, including the CPA.
  • You give Crafta a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and promote your product names, descriptions, and photos on the Crafta website and in Crafta marketing for as long as the listing is live.
  • Crafta does not currently charge Sellers any listing fees or commission. If we introduce fees or seller payouts through Payfast, we will notify you in writing in advance, and new fees will not apply to orders placed before they take effect.

10. Acceptable use

You may not use Crafta to:

  • break any law, or infringe anyone's rights, including privacy and intellectual property rights;
  • upload anything misleading, offensive, defamatory, or harmful, including malware;
  • interfere with the site's security or operation, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • scrape, copy, or harvest content or personal information from the site using automated means.

11. Intellectual property

The Crafta name, logo, site design, and content created by Crafta belong to us. Product photos and descriptions belong to the Sellers who supplied them. You may not copy or reuse any content from the site for commercial purposes without permission.

12. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, ECTA, or other law that cannot be excluded. To the extent the law allows, Crafta is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the site, and our total liability for any order is limited to the amount paid for that order. We work to keep the site available and accurate, but cannot guarantee it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.

13. Privacy

We handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy for details.

14. Complaints and disputes

If you are unhappy with an order or with our service, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. If we cannot resolve your complaint, you may refer it to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or the National Consumer Commission.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when online payments go live. The "last updated" date above shows when they last changed. The version in force when you place an order applies to that order.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and South African courts have jurisdiction over any dispute.
